Variables used for adjustment: Age, Sex, Simplified Acute Physiology Score 2, COPD, coronary artery disease, immunodepression, acute kidney injury, influenza, COVID-19, bacterial involved in pneumonia, Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia, severe ARDS defined by PaO2/FiO2 ratio ≤ 150 mmHg, severe hypercapnia defined by PaCO2 ≥ 50 mmHg, plateau pressure and ventilator ratio the first day of ARDS, and year of admission to the ICU
